About the role
Operates an industrial-sized forklift to receive, transfer, and store product, supplies, and materials while adhering to customer regulations and specifications.
Responsibilities
- Store and retrieve goods in the storage area, ensuring proper rotation (oldest materials used first).
- Note and report damaged cartons, crates, or containers.
- Record items added or removed from inventory using a hand-held scan gun/RFGEN for lot tracking.
- Prepare products for shipment by retrieving designated products and ensuring proper loading and sealing.
- Load and unload product on or from trailers following written or verbal instructions and regulatory guidelines.
- Perform minor equipment service and complete daily safety inspections; report problems to supervisors.
- Change batteries or fuel bottles, refuel forklifts, and troubleshoot repairs as needed.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area, dock, and equipment; adhere to storage design principles.
- Create product labels for inventory and read lot numbers, expiration dates, and production schedules.
- Complete daily reports and enter required information into computer programs efficiently.
- Use basic tools such as wrenches, tape measures, scales, air, and water hoses.
- Consolidate partial pallets as directed by the production supervisor.
- Maneuver forklifts in tight spaces while maintaining a safe work zone for others.
- Participate in team meetings and support team concepts, policies, and B.E.S.T practices.
- Foster team cohesiveness and address areas lacking synergy with the team leader.
- Adhere to Simmons' operating systems (e.g., quality, security, company policies).
- Perform additional duties as necessary to support business objectives.
Physical Requirements
- Climb on and off forklifts and safely operate them, including turning the neck and body.
- Lift and stack up to 75 lbs from floor to crown multiple times daily.
- Work in extreme temperatures (hot and cold), wet, dry, or dusty environments.
- Sit and walk for long periods.

Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic math skills and ability to read, write, and understand English.
- Must obtain and maintain a company-issued forklift license.
- Knowledge of the Julian calendar, FIFO practices, and military time.
- Basic computer literacy; experience with RFGEN and JDE preferred.
- Preferred experience in shipping and receiving or working with large moving equipment.
Schedule
D2 Shift: Wednesday 11:59 PM – 6:00 AM, Thursday – Saturday 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM.
