About the role

Operates an industrial-sized forklift to receive, transfer, and store product, supplies, and materials while adhering to customer regulations and specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Store and retrieve goods in the workplace storage area, rotating stock to ensure oldest materials are used first.
  • Note and report any damaged cartons, crates, or containers.
  • Record items added or removed from inventory.
  • Prepare products for shipment by retrieving designated products and ensuring proper loading and sealing.
  • Use an industrial forklift and a handheld scan gun/RFGEN for lot tracking to maintain accurate inventory.
  • Operate a forklift to pick up, move, load, and unload product on or from trailers following written or verbal instructions, while meeting department, facility, company, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Perform minor equipment service and complete written daily safety inspections.
  • Identify and report equipment problems to the supervisor for further inspection and repair.
  • Change batteries or fuel bottles, refuel forklifts, or troubleshoot repairs as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area, dock, and equipment, adhering to storage design principles and recommending improvements.
  • Create product labels for inventory purposes.
  • Read and understand lot numbers, expiration dates, ingredient lists, and production schedules.
  • Complete various reports daily and enter required information into computer programs efficiently and timely.
  • Use basic tools such as wrenches, tape measures, scales, air, and water hoses.
  • Consolidate partial pallets as directed by the production supervisor.
  • Maneuver forklifts in tight spaces while maintaining a safe work zone for other drivers and team members.
  • Participate as a team member in ongoing development, communication, and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies.
  • Attend team meetings and foster strong cohesiveness regarding major issues such as direction, annual plans, and policy changes.
  • Identify areas lacking cohesiveness and bring them to the attention of the team leader, working collaboratively to resolve issues.
  • Familiarize with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g., quality, security, company policies) and understand the role in supporting these systems.
  • Perform other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to perform basic math and obtain/maintain a company-issued forklift license.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English.
  • Knowledge of the Julian calendar, FIFO practices, and basic computer literacy.
  • Familiarity with military time, RFGEN, and JDE.
  • Preferred experience in shipping and receiving and working with large moving equipment.
  • Must be able to climb on and off the forklift and safely operate it, including turning the neck and body in the opposite direction while reversing.
  • Ability to lift and stack up to 75 lbs from floor to crown, work in extreme temperatures (hot and cold), and operate in wet, dry, or dusty environments.
  • Ability to sit and walk for long periods, lift up to 75 pounds multiple times daily.

Skills

  • Shipping and receiving knowledge.
  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, rubber gloves, rubber boots, rubber apron, hearing protection, and other required PPE.

Schedule

D2 Shift: Wednesday 11:59 PM – 6:00 AM, Thursday – Saturday 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM.
