Shipper/Material Handler

About the role
The Shipper/Material Handler plays a vital role in ensuring the efficient flow of materials within the warehouse and shipping areas. This position is primarily focused on shipping operations and includes responsibilities such as loading and unloading shipments, organizing inventory, and operating material handling equipment like forklifts. The role also involves ensuring timely deliveries to designated locations, maintaining accurate records, and strictly adhering to safety protocols. This team member contributes significantly to the smooth and effective operation of the facility.
We are located in the Dedham/Needham/West Roxbury area and accessible by public transportation.
Responsibilities
- Receiving packaged materials from Pack areas, verifying quantities and condition of goods.
- Preparing items for shipment based on customer orders or production schedules.
- Labeling packages for shipment.
- Communicating with carriers and arranging shipments.
- Creation and printing of necessary paperwork.
- Using forklifts, pallet jacks, or other equipment to move materials onto and off trucks, ships, or loading docks.
- Ensuring materials are handled safely and efficiently, potentially involving the use of specialized equipment and following established procedures.
- Maintaining accurate records of shipments and other relevant data.
- Adhering to all safety regulations and guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries.

- Physical Stamina: The role often involves physical tasks like lifting, carrying, and standing for extended periods.
- Attention to Detail: Accuracy is crucial for inventory management, order fulfillment, and safety procedures.

Requirements
- Some knowledge of basic math skills such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing.
- Experience handling, storing, and shipping materials or supplies; operating material handling equipment; accessing information on a computer; using an ERP system (Visual preferred), reviewing documents for accuracy and completeness.
- Willingness to be trained on the operation of power and/or hand tools.
- Ability to greet individuals, answer phones, and provide information to customers.
- Ability to bend, stoop, lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand and walk continuously throughout an 8-hour shift.
- Ability to work in warehouse conditions.
- Ability to clean and maintain a safe working environment.
