Shipfitter Entry Level & Semi-Skilled

About the role

Electric Boat is seeking individuals to join our Shipfitting Department, part of our ongoing growth and expansion. We are dedicated to building the most advanced submarines for the US Navy, leveraging over a century of expertise in submarine design, construction, and lifecycle support.

Responsibilities

• Interpret construction drawings with basic mathematical ability
• Lay out, fabricate, assemble, and install foundations, structures, components, and deck packages
• Develop a working knowledge of structural weld joint fit-up/weld symbols, burning, and grinding operations
• Work with company drawings, test documents, technical manuals, and shipyard procedures
• Perform work in entry-level confined spaces

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED or current High School Senior with 2+ years of relevant technical experience
• Successful completion of the Eastern CT Workforce Investment Board (EWIB) Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative training program if applicable
• Willingness to train and work on any shift
• Ability to work all shifts and in all environments, including radiological areas
• Basic hand tool proficiency
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD secret clearance

Qualifications

• Must be available to train and work on any shift
• Knowledge in fitting, fairing, and shaping steel pieces, hull sections, bulkheads, and equipment foundations
• Ability to interpret structural drawings, technical manuals, test documents, and diagrams

Skills

• Able to work all shifts and in all environments, including radiological areas
• Willing to accept road job assignments
• Ability to perform heavy lifting, climbing, crawling, kneeling, reaching, pulling, pushing, twisting, stooping, and working in noisy, dusty, wet, and cold environments
