Shipboard Landing Systems Radar Technician III /IV
Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct lab-based system operations and daily maintenance at the Landing Systems Test Facility (LSTF) in Patuxent River, MD, and provide support from pre-positioned offices in San Diego, CA and Norfolk, VA.
- Identify, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair system faults to ensure maximum operational readiness.
- Develop, design, modify, install, and operate electrical, electronic, mechanical, and communications systems for Landing Systems and associated support equipment.
- Develop and execute comprehensive test plans and procedures, including the collection and analysis of test data results.
- Perform System Operational Verification Tests (SOVT) and Certification Testing aboard U.S. Navy ships.
- Provide both onsite and remote technical assistance to the Fleet.
- Develop and update engineering specifications, maintenance procedures, drawings, and Field Change Bulletins.
- Organize and analyze technical data to prepare formal reports and presentations.
Technical Troubleshooting
Identify, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair system faults to ensure maximum operational readiness.
Systems Engineering
Develop, design, modify, install, and operate electrical, electronic, mechanical, and communications systems for Landing Systems and associated support equipment.
Test Management
Develop and execute comprehensive test plans and procedures, including the collection and analysis of test data results.
Fleet Integration
Perform System Operational Verification Tests (SOVT) and Certification Testing aboard U.S. Navy ships.
Fleet Assistance
Provide both onsite and remote technical assistance to the Fleet.
Technical Documentation
Develop and update engineering specifications, maintenance procedures, drawings, and Field Change Bulletins.
Reporting
Organize and analyze technical data to prepare formal reports and presentations.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- High School diploma and at least 4 years of related experience.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency with MS Office applications (i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).
- Basic understanding of electronic components.
- Basic understanding of functional schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Experience with military electronic systems to include assembling or installing equipment or parts requiring simple wiring, soldering, or connecting.
- Ability to obtain a passport.
- Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work on US Navy ships, to include walking up and down multiple flights of stairs.
- Ability to stay onboard US Navy Ships while at sea (typically 4-7 days at a time).
- Ability to ride on military transport aircraft (i.e. personnel transport helicopters or planes).
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Military electronics training in AN/SPN-46, AN/USN-3(V), AN/SPN-, ASR-, SPS-, TPN-, TPS, or FPN- systems.
- Technical familiarity with the AN/SPN-46(V) or AN/USN-3(V).
- Technical certification from technical school, trade school, advanced armed services in the fields of electricity, electronics, avionics, mechanics, or engineering technology.
- Proficiency with electronics and network test equipment (Spectrum Analyzer, Oscilloscope, Optical Time Domain Reflectometer, etc.).
- Proficiency in reading and understanding ship installation drawings, Installation Control Drawings and Plan of Actions and Milestones.
Pay Information
This position is covered by a wage law called the McNamara-O'Hara Service Contract Act (SCA). The wage range for this position is determined by the Wage and Hour Division of the Department of Labor on a contract-by-contract basis.
