Shift Technical Advisor

About the role

The Shift Technical Advisor supports the Y12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, TN, a vital part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Nuclear Security Enterprise. This role involves understanding and evaluating the safety basis for facility operations, interfacing with support organizations, performing troubleshooting, presenting technical briefings, and managing large, cross-cutting activities.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary support team member for the Operations Manager and Shift Manager to ensure daily operations are safe, effective, and compliant with approved procedures.
• Interface with support organizations to understand planned operations and ensure compliance with facility safety basis.
• Perform troubleshooting and improvement activities for emerging issues within the operations management scope.
• Serve in a project management role for coordinating large, cross-cutting activities involving multiple interfaces across organizational lines.
• Present technical briefings or presentations describing and explaining approved facility operations and compliance implementation methods.
• Evaluate proposed modifications or changes against the approved Documented Safety Analysis and determine processes to ensure they are within the facility’s scope and methods.
• Provide on-call coverage for weekends based on a rotation with others in the group.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• BA/BS Degree plus 15-20 years of direct experience, or an MA/MS with 14-18 years of experience.
• Must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (e.g., Baccalaureate in engineering or related scientific major with 2 years job-related experience and 1 year nuclear experience; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative).
• MUST be a U.S. citizen.
• Successful drug screening.
• Ability to obtain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance and HRP Certification.

Location/Work Arrangement

This position is fully onsite at Y12 National Security Complex. The schedule is full-time, Monday – Friday, 40-hour week.
