Shift Supervisor
About the role
Responsible for overseeing all mining operations during assigned shifts, ensuring safety compliance, coordinating with other supervisors, managing production schedules, and addressing personnel issues. Provides exceptional leadership and direction through coaching, mentorship, supervision, and development with a focus on a safe and inclusive environment.
Responsibilities
- Comply with and ensure compliance with Redpath’s Policies and Procedures as detailed in the appropriate manuals, handbooks, directives, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Oversee and manage all mining operations during assigned shifts.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and regulations.
- Coordinate with other supervisors and managers to optimize production schedules.
- Train and mentor staff on operational procedures and safety measures.
- Monitor equipment performance and address any issues promptly.
- Report on shift activities, including production metrics and safety incidents.
- Collaborate with maintenance team to schedule repairs and maintenance activities.
- Implement and enforce company policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
- Address any personnel issues or conflicts within the shift team.
- If required to operate a company vehicle, must meet the requirements to be an eligible user of company vehicles and possess a current State Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
- Manage employee performance and adherence to the Company’s policies and procedures.
- Ensure training is provided to meet the current and future needs of the mine.
- Responsible for the hiring, evaluation, commendation, training, disciplinary action, and dismissals regarding supervised staff.
- Comply with daily, weekly, and monthly safety directives, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality with respect to Redpath and client information.
- Assist other job functions as required.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- 2-5 years’ experience in a similar role.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to multitask and work effectively.
- Ability to safely use and handle a variety of tools, equipment, and materials.
- Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently.
- Ability to read and understand engineering prints (civil work, structural work, rock excavation work).
- Ability to work as part of a project planning team.
- Previous quality experience is required.
- MSHA Underground miner training would be considered an asset.
- Underground Mining experience would be an asset, as would knowledge of applicable mine regulations pertaining to construction in mining.
- Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform duties in a safe and efficient manner.
- Ability to pass background clearance check, drug screening, and physical.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to prepare written reports and correspondence.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.
- High level of attention to detail, neatness, and accuracy.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Schedule
- Able to work in excess of 40 hours a week, overtime, day and night shifts, weekends, holidays, and shift rotations.
