Shift Supervisor

About the role

The Shift Supervisor leads store operations and personnel in the absence of the store manager and assistant manager, serving as the go-to person for salesclerks to receive guidance and assistance during their shift. This role ensures company policies and procedures are followed while delivering high-level customer service, overseeing store safety, and maintaining overall store appearance.

The successful candidate must have excellent customer service skills, strong oral and written communication, organizational abilities, attention to detail, and a demonstrated ability to lead by example.

Responsibilities

• Coach and direct employees to provide excellent customer service
• Maintain awareness of cleanliness both inside and outside of the store
• Develop and assign tasks to staff members and oversee completion of tasks
• Order and receive merchandise utilizing inventory ordering guidelines
• Maintain cash and inventory control during all supervised shifts
• Report environment, maintenance issues, and unusual occurrences to proper authority and management
• Open and close registers for staff members, count register drawers, and resolve cash overages and shortages
• Review end-of-day reports and assist in preparation of daily paperwork as assigned by manager
• Audit cashier paperwork for accuracy
• Resolve customer issues and approve exceptions to policy for coupons, returns, etc.
• Train new hires and create development opportunities for experienced staff members
• Provide recognition and constructive feedback throughout the shift as appropriate

Requirements

• At least 18 years old
• At least 6 months of experience in a Sales Clerk/Cashier role
• Previous leadership experience and/or demonstrated leadership ability
• Capable of working well without supervision
• Flexibility to work weekend, holiday, and/or evening shifts
• Must have reliable transportation
• Excellent customer service skills and demonstrated problem-solving skills
• Ability to effectively communicate with teammates, management, and guests
• Knowledge of store policies and procedures
• Ability to read and understand English
• Ability to read and understand numbers, count, and perform basic arithmetic (add/subtract)
• Great attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
