About the role
The Shift Supervisor is a full-time, on-site role based in Orlando, FL, responsible for overseeing daily shelter operations during assigned shifts. This role coordinates staff activities, ensures adherence to organizational policies and procedures, and maintains a safe, respectful environment for guests and team members. The Shift Supervisor monitors client intake and exit processes, addresses immediate needs and concerns, and supports the implementation of programs and services in line with the Coalition's mission.
Responsibilities
- Supervising front-line staff
- Managing incident reports
- De-escalating conflicts
- Collaborating with case management and other departments to support client stability
- Maintaining accurate documentation
- Preparing shift reports
- Monitoring facility cleanliness and security
- Participating in ongoing training and performance improvement efforts
Qualifications
- Experience supervising teams in shelter, social services, nonprofit, or related settings, with the ability to provide guidance, feedback, and support to staff
- Strong client service and crisis management skills, including de-escalation, conflict resolution, and the ability to respond calmly and effectively in high-pressure situations
- Solid organizational and administrative abilities, including documentation, report writing, time management, and basic computer proficiency (email, databases, Microsoft Office)
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact respectfully with diverse populations, colleagues, and community partners
- Understanding of trauma-informed care, homelessness, and related social issues, or a willingness to learn and apply best practices in these areas
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and non-discriminatory practices in all aspects of client and staff interactions
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in social work, human services, or a related field is preferred
- Ability to work on-site in Orlando, FL, stand or walk for extended periods, and work evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed
- Previous experience in security, residential programs, or emergency shelter settings is a plus
