Shift Supervisor

Position Overview

Reporting to the Plant Operations Manager, the Shift Supervisor will assume overall operational management and responsibility for an assigned 12-hour rotating shift. This role ensures the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of the facility, including the monitoring of all plant generation equipment and compliance with all federal and state regulations.

Role And Key Responsibilities

• Supervises and directs personnel in the conduct of required work activities.
• Maintains a safe working environment, ensuring all personnel follow applicable policies and regulatory requirements.
• Approves all requests for removing equipment from service, ensuring equipment is properly cleared and tagged, and issuing safety permits.
• Directs the completion of shift, daily, weekly, and monthly checks.
• Covers unit operations and maintenance activities, including assigning priority for maintenance work.
• Covers emergency response efforts, such as hurricane preparedness, staffing, and environmental spill response.
• Interfaces and communicates effectively with dispatching, maintenance, and other organizations.
• Provides regular performance feedback to employees and directs technical training and development for all personnel on the assigned shift.
• Ensures all Company resources are utilized in a cost-effective manner, monitors expenditures, and reports on the performance of the assigned area.
• Maintains working relationships with employees consistent with personnel policies and the principles of the bargaining unit Agreement.
• Performs field inspections of job sites and work in progress to recognize and proactively resolve problems.

Professional And Educational Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related discipline with 4 years of operations experience at a utility-level power plant.
• In lieu of a degree, a High School Diploma with 8 years of operations experience at a utility-level power plant.
• Minimum 5 years of specific experience in power/steam plant operations and maintenance, including hands-on experience with high-pressure boilers and electrical generation.

• Must possess a valid and current NYC High Pressure Stationary Engineer License.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to work 12-hour rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays to support 24/7 staffing.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, climb ladders/stairs, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in confined spaces or at heights up to 100 feet.
• Must be able to wear personal protective equipment, including respirators; facial hair in the respirator sealing area is not permitted.
