Shift Mgr
This is a 12-hour night shift position located in Hershey, PA.
About the Role
The Hershey Company West Hershey plant is a Union plant producing products such as White & Dark Paste, Kisses, Nuggets, Milk Bars, Almond Bars, Rolo, Syrup & Cookies and Crème in a high-speed complex environment. This position is responsible for managing a superior safe, quality, efficient, and cost-effective operation by leading and directing Production Supervisors, Maintenance Supervisors, and hourly maintenance and production employees to ensure compliance with established company rules, plant policies, and procedures on a specific shift. The role involves meeting production schedules with minimal downtime and production loss, overseeing sanitation, CIP, logistics, and managing overall plant assets for the assigned shift.
Responsibilities
- Provide a highly visible and accessible presence throughout the plant on the assigned shift.
- Serve as the point of contact for employees without a salaried supervisor on shift, including sanitation, general labor, and 12-hour support.
- Engage with employees to communicate the plant’s mission, goals, and expectations, promoting empowerment and individual accountability.
- Teach problem-solving, interaction management, and situational leadership when issues arise.
- Emphasize the importance of incident reporting, corrective action development, weekly/daily planning, and time management.
- Communicate management’s position or concerns on plant or company issues and keep management informed of employee feedback.
- Provide leadership and participate in problem-solving across the plant for the specific shift, implementing recommendations and solutions for people, product, or equipment issues.
- Act as the crisis lead for the shift, guiding assistance with safety reporting, quality incident management, sensitive discipline issues (e.g., suspensions), and post-accident drug testing.
- Meet plant MIP goals through leadership in safety, quality initiatives, capital expenditures, cost-saving programs, and productivity improvements.
- Coach, direct, train, and develop supervisors for the shift while supporting the manufacturing mission.
- Establish and plan training, particularly for new hires, ensuring alignment with company, plant, and department objectives.
- Lead and maintain the team as a world-class organization.
- Assist with labor scheduling during high call-off events, prioritizing tasks, or providing input on non-production job shutdowns.
- Coordinate and deliver communication activities regarding objectives, results, and plans within the department and across plant functions to ensure seamless operation.
- Make judgment calls on goal alignment to achieve manufacturing excellence.
- Establish, monitor, and control the implementation and administration of all plant and department procedures on the shift.
- Ensure proper implementation and utilization of SAP, analyze data, and lead initiatives based on outcomes.
- Execute plant-wide projects and provide vision and leadership to champion initiatives driving change to optimize safety, quality, and costs.
- Determine appropriate delegation of assignments, follow up, and take ownership of delegated tasks.
Requirements

- Experience in manufacturing supervision.
- General understanding of cost accounting.
- Basic engineering knowledge.
- SAP experience is preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing or a high-speed, complex environment.
- Minimum of 2 years in a supervisory capacity preferred.
