Primary Purpose and Function
The Shift Lead performs the duties of a CSC and/or veterinary assistant/technician, and provides operational support across all shifts. They help coordinate and guide the paraprofessional staff and support hospital leadership in maximizing productivity and profitability.
Essential Responsibilities and Tasks
- Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team.
- Perform the duties of a CSC and/or veterinary assistant/technician, including:
- Actively recruiting new clients and managing client flow.
- Maximizing the number of pets seen by the hospital team.
- Providing professional, efficient, and exceptional service.
- Educating clients about Optimum Wellness Plans, preventative care, pet health needs, and hospital services.
- Aiding incoming and outgoing clients, completing documentation, and managing finances.
- Assisting with surgery as applicable and utilizing technical skills.
- Support the Practice Manager in:
- Developing an efficient, productive hospital team.
- Managing hospital labor and supervising the paraprofessional team.
- Ensuring quality medical care, exceptional client service, associate engagement, and maximum productivity.
- Communicating with associates, clients, hospital leadership, and Central Team Support.
- Ensuring compliance with Banfield protocols and practices.
- Training and mentoring new paraprofessional associates.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or veterinary technician certification/licensure preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Two years of experience (healthcare, veterinary profession, service-type industry, etc.), with six months at Banfield preferred.
- Prior supervisory experience preferred.
- Medical background (veterinary technician, human healthcare, pharmaceutical, etc.) with medical terminology training preferred.
