JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Plant Manager, the Shift Lead directs and assists in the work activities of production employees.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee production floor activities to achieve safe, efficient operation of quality product
- Maintain production levels
- Make quality control decisions
- Safety
- Ensure safety policies and procedures are followed
- Perform accident investigations
- Coach and develop employees through on-the-spot feedback, annual performance reviews, and corrective actions
- Communicate and enforce company rules and policies
- Approve weekly timecards and requests for time off
- Conduct employee training of equipment operations and safety procedures, or assign employee training to experienced workers
- Backup plant personnel to operate machines, forklift, crane, etc.
- Provide efficient changeover to next shift lead
- Complete production documentation
- Ensure that maintenance of plant equipment, both troubleshooting and preventive maintenance, is completed through proper communication with maintenance
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, and quality standards
- Knowledge of machines including their limitations
- Knowledge of basic arithmetic
- Knowledge of and ability to comply with safety rules and requirements
- Ability to accurately use tape measures, Rockwell tester, micrometers and calipers
- Ability to read and understand material tags and production instructions
- Ability to correctly retrieve and input data in a computer
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Critical thinking skills
- Time management skills
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to routinely climb stairs, ladders, or platforms
- Ability to routinely twist, bend, and squat
- Ability to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time
- Ability to repetitively reach and grasp
- Ability to frequently lift, push, and/or pull up to 50lbs
WORKING CONDITIONS
- This is a safety sensitive position.
- This work is performed in a manufacturing setting with moderate to high levels of noise due to machinery and equipment processes.
- The temperature of the facility will vary based on the outside weather conditions.
- This position requires the use of personal protective equipment for safety compliance and may include overtime as deemed necessary by management.
