About the role
The Marin County Sheriff's Office is seeking a Sheriff's Service Assistant to join the Detention Services Bureau. This position accepts bail, receives money for inmates, issues receipts, files and maintains inmate records, and operates and monitors controls to allow jail personnel to move throughout the jail safely.
Responsibilities
- Accepts bail, receives money for inmates, and issues receipts.
- Fills and maintains inmate records in the custody management system.
- Operates and monitors controls to allow jail personnel to move throughout the jail safely.
- Works in a locked, secure facility.
- Works variable assigned shifts.
- Works weekends and holidays.
- Works overtime as required.
- Complies with grooming standards and wears a uniform.
- Works in constant and extreme noise levels, witnesses combative situations, and hears profane language.
Requirements
The ideal candidate must meet the following requirements:
- One (1) year of experience in a customer service, public contact, or office support position.
- Education and/or training in a field related to the position may substitute for the experience on a year for year basis.
- Available and willing to work in a locked, secure facility.
- Available and willing to work variable assigned shifts.
- Available and willing to work weekends and holidays.
- Available and willing to work overtime as required.
- Available and willing to comply with grooming standards and wear a uniform.
- Available and willing to work in constant and extreme noise levels, witness combative situations, and hear profane language.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of standard office administrative practices and procedures including computer applications and software related to the work of the department.
- Business mathematics and financial record keeping and report production.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; make decisions in routine procedural matters.
- Exercise good judgment while working within the guidelines of established policies and procedures.
- Enter data into and operate a computer terminal.
- Prepare and maintain accurate and concise records and reports.
- Communicate clearly and effectively by phone and in person with individuals of all ages and backgrounds.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions; make decisions in routine procedural matters.
Skills
The ideal candidate should possess the following skills:
- Rapid and accurate data entry skills.
- A strong grasp of the Microsoft Office suite of products, with an emphasis on Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- The ability to learn new software related to criminal records checks, law enforcement automated databases, and LiveScan automated fingerprint systems.

Schedule
