Sheriff’s Automotive Technician - Supervising
About the role
The Sheriff's Office is recruiting for a Supervising Sheriff's Automotive Technician. This position is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and overseeing the outfitting, installation, repair, and maintenance of department vehicles and specialized equipment.
This role ensures that vehicles are properly equipped, maintained, and operating reliably to support public safety operations. The position coordinates technical activities, supervises assigned work, and performs a variety of specialized technical duties related to the assigned area of responsibility.
Responsibilities
- Recommend and assist in the implementation of unit goals and objectives;
- Establish schedules and methods for the upfitting of emergency vehicles and equipment assigned to the Sheriff’s Office;
- Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, and review the work of staff involved in the installation, repair, and maintenance of specialized Sheriff’s Office equipment;
- Evaluate operations and activities of assigned responsibilities;
- Coordinate and monitor workflow of an assigned work unit;
- Recommend and implement improvements and modifications to assigned work unit;
- Schedule vehicle and equipment service and repair activities, both internally and with outside vendors;
- Forecast vehicle replacements and associated costs;
- Maintain communication with Command staff regarding the status of vehicles and equipment, personnel needs, and operational matters impacting upfitting activities;
- Oversee the work of staff performing routine maintenance and repair of vehicles;
- Oversee and maintain Sheriff’s Office fuel network;
- Participate in the work of staff as it relates to routine maintenance and repair of vehicles and the upfitting of vehicles and equipment;
- As directed, may represent the division to outside agencies, organizations, and vendors;
- Answer questions and provide information to the public;
- Investigate complaints and recommend corrective action as necessary.
Requirements
- Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience performing duties similar to a Sheriff’s Automotive Technician II with Placer County;
- Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade;
- May need to possess a valid driver’s license as required by the position;
- Proof of adequate vehicle insurance and medical clearance may also be required.
Qualifications
Based upon responses to the supplemental questionnaire, the applicant's education, training, and experience will be evaluated using a pre-determined formula. Scores from this evaluation will determine applicant ranking and placement on the eligible list.
