About the role

The Sheriff's Support Specialist position within the Kern County Sheriff's Office is dedicated to providing support services to enhance operational efficiency and improve public safety. This role requires a high level of responsibility and commitment to maintaining a high-performance culture.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of records and reports.
  • Handle incoming and outgoing correspondence, including emails and phone calls.
  • Support administrative tasks such as scheduling, data entry, and document management.
  • Conduct examinations and appraisals as part of the hiring process.
  • Provide clerical support during special events and emergencies.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent.
  • Three years of progressively responsible clerical, general computer, and office experience directly related to the area of assignment.
  • One year of experience as a Sheriff's Support Technician or its equivalent.
  • Valid California Driver's License.
  • Transcription speed of 50 net words per minute.
  • A typing certificate verifying a speed of at least 50 net words per minute, issued within the last two years.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of standard office practices and procedures.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Pay

The starting salary range for this position is $40,000 - $45,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience. Shift pay is 5% additional for evening shifts and 7.5% for night shifts.

Schedule

The position works within the Kern County Sheriff's Office and may require rotating shifts, including evenings and nights. Applicants must be willing to work any shift of a 24-hour period and any 5 of 7 days.
