Sheriff's Office Reserve Deputy

The Carson City Sheriff's Office Reserve Unit seeks volunteers to assist regular sworn deputies in enforcing laws and maintaining peace and order. This is an unpaid position requiring a commitment to various tests and investigations.

About the role

Reserve Deputies support regular deputies by assisting with law enforcement duties and maintaining community safety. They may be assigned to different areas within the office as needed.

Responsibilities

• Assist regular deputies in enforcing laws and maintaining peace and order.
• May be assigned to areas within the Office as needed.
• Work a minimum of 12 hours per month, with two hours in the Jail.
• Act only in a supplementary capacity to the regular force.

Requirements

• Equivalent to a high school education or GED.
• Must undergo a complete and documented background investigation.
• Must be at least 21 years old at the time of appointment.
• Must have a valid driver's license.
• Must complete Nevada Reserve P.O.S.T. certification within one year of appointment.
• Cannot hold an active Private Investigators license.

Qualifications

• Good moral character verified through a thorough background check.
• A U.S. citizen.
• Pass a medical examination confirming no physical condition that would affect performance.

Skills

• Physical fitness to handle tasks such as restraining suspects, lifting and carrying objects, and running long distances.
• Ability to communicate effectively in person and over the phone.
• Knowledge of traffic conditions and external environments while traveling between offices.
• Basic computer skills to access and understand training materials.

This is an unpaid position.

Schedule

Reserve Deputies work a minimum of 12 hours per month, with two hours in the Jail. They may also be required to work nights and weekends.
