Shelter Victim Advocate

About the role

Support the agency mission by providing hope and healing to those impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, and child maltreatment through a trauma-informed, client-centered approach.

Responsibilities

• Provide intake, assessment, case management, crisis intervention, safety planning, court education, information, and referrals as applicable.
• Ensure coordinated client care with key community partners.
• Act with client needs and expectations in mind to the extent possible.
• Maintain an advocacy caseload for program clients.
• Refer clients to community resources including housing, education, and employment opportunities.
• Assist clients with developing goals and identifying areas of need.
• Document case information and complete all necessary forms accurately and timely.
• Develop and deliver psycho-educational, life skills/social skills, and supportive groups tailored to residents’ identified needs.
• Assist with resolving residential conflicts while maintaining a safe environment using trauma-informed practices.
• Maintain confidential and accurate client, stakeholder, intern, and volunteer records, program and agency records in agency databases (e.g., CSN, Raiser’s Edge, Financial Edge, Timeforce).
• Research, write, and manage grant reporting and grantor relationships as assigned by supervisor.
• Adhere to agency and program procedures concerning documentation, Critical Incident Reports, Client Satisfaction Surveys, and participate in the Quality Assurance process.
• Increase awareness of victimization, prevention, and available resources through public speaking and media requests as assigned by supervisor.
• Participate in community meetings and committees as assigned by supervisor.
• Promote and maintain professional relationships with agency staff, volunteers, interns, stakeholders, and community partners.
• Stay informed of best practices, developments, and trends in trauma and victimization, especially related to intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and child maltreatment.
• Maintain and develop skills and knowledge by attending training and ensuring licensure and certifications are up to date as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned to contribute to agency effectiveness.

Requirements

• Bachelor Degree or Equivalent Experience

Preferences

• Experience working with victims or experience in human services
• Spanish-speaking preferred

Physical Requirements

• Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, twist, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
• Ability for close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus to perform an activity to determine accuracy and thoroughness of work assignment.
• Ability to reach, stand, crouch, walk, finger, grasp, sit, twist, talk, hear, and perform repeated motions.

• Position may require staff to work outside of typical work hours as the agency provides services 24/7.
