About the role
Gateway West, Albuquerque's largest emergency shelter, is seeking an experienced and compassionate Program Manager to lead daily shelter operations, staff supervision, and case management services.
Responsibilities
- Lead daily shelter operations and coordinate staff for smooth, client-centered service.
- Support case managers in creating and tracking service plans, connecting guests to housing and resources.
- Ensure safety, cleanliness, and compliance in all shelter processes.
- Supervise, coach, and train staff for professional growth.
- Maintain accurate data, reporting, and accountability for program outcomes.
- Promote a respectful, trauma-informed environment for guests and employees.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Public Administration, or a related field; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree for experience exceeding minimum requirements.
- Minimum of 3-5 years in social services or shelter management, with at least 2-3 years in a supervisory role, preferably in social services or shelter environments.
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed care principles and a commitment to applying them in practice.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office and client management software.
- Experience and commitment to working with multiethnic, multicultural, low-income populations.
- Excellent organizational, attention to detail, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven supervisory and effective leadership skills.
- Excellent documentation, confidentiality and clinical skills.
- Proven ability to follow-up and meet deadlines independently.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
- Excellent initiative, flexibility, and stress-management in handling the demands of shelter leadership, evolving priorities, and team dynamics.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and delegate to balance the many responsibilities, and address the various issues, that a leader faces during the workday.
- Demonstrated sound judgment in assessing risk, determining appropriate levels of intervention, and escalating concerns in a timely, ethical, and policy-aligned manner to ensure client, staff, and organizational safety.
