About the role

CVOEO's Voices Against Violence (VAV) Program works towards the elimination of domestic and sexual violence and stalking through direct service, education and systems change. The Shelter Advocate coordinates services with other systems and community outreach, providing direct support and advocacy services to survivors in the shelter and community under the supervision of the Shelter Team Lead.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support and advocacy services to survivors in the shelter and community.
  • Coordinate services with other systems and community outreach.
  • Work within the philosophy and mission of the program and agency.
  • Ensure confidentiality for program guests and all survivors.
  • Treat others with dignity and respect regardless of differences in background and experience.
  • Provide and receive appropriate feedback, address and manage conflict, and maintain professionalism.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer applications, including databases, email, and internet-based tools.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to uphold safety standards.

Requirements

  • An Associate’s degree in a Human Service field or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired.
  • A highly motivated and responsible individual with the ability to relate to a wide variety of people in a non-judgmental, positive, and competent manner.
  • Commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work sensitively with diverse populations and in high-stress environments.
  • Good organizational and crisis intervention skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills required, bilingual abilities a plus.
  • Must be willing to work within the philosophy of the program and agency.
  • Must demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the Mission and Guiding Principles of Voices Against Violence, and survivor-defined model; team-based approach.
