About the role

Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager, the Sheet Metal Technician fabricates, assembles, and repairs sheet metal products using a variety of tools and machinery. This role requires precision, technical knowledge, and a strong commitment to safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Operate fabricating machines (shears, brakes, presses, forming rolls, expander, routers) to cut, bend, block, form, or straighten materials
• Read work orders, blueprints, and specifications to determine operation requirements
• Shape metal material over anvil, block, or other form using hand tools
• Trim, file, grind, deburr, buff, and smooth surfaces using hand tools and portable power tools
• Assemble component parts using bolts, rivets, screws, clips, or bonds with hand tools, power tools, and equipment
• Install assemblies per blueprint using hand tools, power tools, and lifting/handling devices
• Inspect assemblies and installations for conformance to specifications using measuring instruments (calipers, scales, dial indicators, gauges, micrometers)
• Perform daily/weekly operator maintenance on machine equipment/tools (oil, clean, inspect)
• Execute Company Process Control (PC) instructions and provide feedback for revisions
• Document actions by completing production and quality logs
• Improve Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC) through continuous exploration of opportunities
• Train others by sharing information, knowledge, and expertise with the team
• Complete job assignments as directed by the Manufacturing Manager
• Attend meetings, trainings, and participate in audits
• Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations
• Use personal protective equipment as defined by company policies and safety regulations
• Report unsafe conditions, accidents, and injuries immediately to management
• Actively participate in 6S and lean activities
• Maintain equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements
• Maintain continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and needs
• Store and maintain tools, equipment, and gauges per company standards
• Keep work area clean and organized; perform daily cleaning and sweeping of work area, tools, and equipment
• Remove personal items from workstations and empty trash/waste as needed

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum 1 year of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Forklift experience preferred
• Reliable transportation
• Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage time, multitask, and pay close attention to details
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Capable of following directions and taking responsibility for production efficiency and quality
• Demonstrate customer focus by responding to internal and external customer needs
• Maintain a positive attitude and communicate openly and honestly
• Proactively solve problems and contribute to continuous improvement
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods
• Comfortable working in environments with noise, heat, or dust
• Regularly required to move, sit, and bend for various hours throughout the day
