Sheetmetal Mechanic

This position is at a Depot Level repair facility performing maintenance on various aircraft, including but not limited to F/A-18 A-G and F-35. Military aviation platform experience is a plus. This role requires a government-issued security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Perform a full range of aircraft sheet metal duties, including disassembling, modifying, repairing, and reassembling complex aircraft metal items and systems such as bulkheads, airframes, spars, air scoops, wings, flaps, pylons, sponsons, fuselages, skins, ribs, gussets, and fuel tanks.
• Analyze and evaluate structural damage to metal systems and items; develop patterns using parallel and radial line development.
• Fabricate, install, and repair items and systems made from a variety of metals, including stainless steel, copper sheet, magnesium, honeycomb, alloys, and aluminum.
• Replace sections and patch old systems; cut, bend, shape, and form metals for items with numerous irregular angles, planes, and curves of varying pitch and circumference.
• Use a variety of assembly joints and complex fastening systems, including riveted or welded joints; drill or punch holes; assemble or repair items by seaming, bolting, screwing, riveting, or tacking.
• Ensure assembly methods meet appearance, strength standards, and critical tolerances.
• Pass a FRCW-administered certification skills examination as a condition of employment.
• Use precision measuring instruments such as calipers, protractors, snap rings, height, depth, dial and screw pitch gauges, squares, rulers, trammel points, and sine bars.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 4 years of Sheetmetal Mechanic (Aircraft Mechanic II) experience.
• F-18G (Growler) experience preferred.
• A&P license not required but is a plus.
• Preferred experience from the military fixed-wing community or civilian heavy structure background.
• Experience in heavy structure from U.S. Military, FAA, or civil aviation.
• Must be able to obtain and/or maintain a secret clearance.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to walk, stand, crawl, kneel, and bend on level and/or inclined surfaces for extended periods.
• Ability to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands.
• Ability to crouch, crawl, grasp, pull, push, reach, or handle objects; use finger dexterity; bend elbow/knee; and reach above/below shoulders.
• May be required to lift up to 44 pounds and carry moderately heavy items up to 44 pounds.
• Ability to see aircraft in flight, read dials/gauges, identify small objects, and use hand tools.
• Must be able to see imperfections, micrometer readings, and other small scales with or without corrective lenses.
• Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
• Must be able to distinguish color, shades of color, and judge three-dimensional depth.
• May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, forklifts, APUs, cranes, trucks, or tractors.

Environmental Factors

• Work in an inside/outside environment around machinery, objects, vehicles, ladders, and scaffolds.
• Exposure to excessive noise and vibration, which may be intermittent or constant.
• Environmental conditions may include dust, silica, asbestos, fumes, smoke, gas, solvents (e.g., degreasing agents), grease, oils, and electrical energy.
• Work on slippery or uneven surfaces.
• Work closely with others or alone.
• Possible protracted or irregular hours of work as needed.
