Sheetmetal Journeyman

Responsibilities

  • Perform all types of sheet metal work involving layout, shearing, punching, forming, fabrication, removal and replacing, and erection of complicated and other sheet metal installations.
  • Set up and operate sheet metal tools.
  • Direct others.
  • Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Minimum of 1 year of Journeyman-level Sheet Metal experience.
    • Ability to safely and effectively utilize all tools, materials, and equipment common to the trade.
    • Valid state-issued driver's license.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Graduate of formal Sheet Metal apprenticeship program.
    • At least 3 years of experience at the journey level.
    • Skills in utilizing electronic work request systems/tracking for tablets or Smartphones.
    • Ability to study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
    • Ability to measure, mark dimensions, and lay out material to be installed using tools such as scribes, rulers, calculators and squares.
    • Ability to fasten joints and seams in sheet metal with solder, welds, caulk, bolts and metal driver clips, ensuring work is done carefully and bonds will last.
    • Install assemblies, including pipes, HVAC ducts, flashings, rain gutters and furnace casings in supportive frameworks.
    • Ability to use hand and power tools to trim, buff, smooth, file and grind metal surfaces and joints of parts that have been assembled to ensure safety and a seamless appearance.
    • Ability to select the appropriate type and gauge of sheet metal to be used in projects according to specifications.
    • Ability to understand and maintain a safe working environment for themselves and for their co-workers and embody a questioning attitude to create a safe working atmosphere.

    Security, Credentialing, And Eligibility Requirements

    As a national laboratory, PNNL is responsible for adhering to the Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) and Department of Energy (DOE) Order 473.1A, which require new employees to obtain and maintain a HSPD-12 Personal Identify Verification (PIV) Credential. To obtain this credential, new employees must successfully complete the applicable tier of federal background investigation post hire and receive a favorable federal adjudication. The tier of federal background investigation will be determined by job duties and national security or public trust responsibilities associated with the job. All tiers of investigation include a declaration of illegal drug activities, including use, supply, possession, or manufacture within the last 1 to 7 years (depending on the applicable tier of investigation).
