About the role
Operates a sheetfed printing press, which puts ink and/or coatings on paper or other surfaces and performs other in-line finishing operations such as scoring, die-cutting, or perforating.
Responsibilities
- Reads and understands the job ticket, layout sheet, artwork, and other specifications of a job.
- Rules sheet out for inspecting trims, straightness, and correctness of folds and checks against bluelines and artwork.
- Achieves color match/approval to proofs.
- Makes ready jobs in a timely, efficient manner.
- Fills ink fountains and produces color within provided tolerances.
- Reviews readers, makes necessary adjustments, and adjusts color density to meet required spectrophotometer readings.
- Inspects and pulls quality control sheets throughout the run.
- Maintains necessary press records.
- Operates micrometer.
- Ensures compliance with all applicable OSHA, EPA, federal, and state rules, regulations, policies, guidelines, and company safety rules.
- Directs and performs routine and preventive maintenance on all assigned equipment.
- Keeps an ongoing list of maintenance issues to be addressed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 3 years of experience with a 6-color press.
- 3 years of knowledge with a 40” and 51” press.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- 1–3+ years of experience as a multicolor web second press operator preferred.
- Full comprehension in reading work instructions and business memos.
- Effective communication skills with all levels within the organization.
- Ability to use basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, measurements) and critical thinking to solve practical problems.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to work effectively in stressful situations and meet stringent deadlines.
- Organized and able to plan, prioritize, and follow through on projects assigned with minimal supervision.
- Basic computer skills.
- Self-motivated, reliable, and quality- and safety-oriented.
Physical Requirements
- Requires use of proper body mechanics with pushing, pulling, reaching, lifting, squatting, kneeling, and bending.
- Pushing/pulling and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Requires fine motor hand and arm movement, manual dexterity, and coordination.
- Requires near visual acuity.
- Requires working around and operating departmental equipment.
- Must be able to access and navigate each department in the facility.
- Requires the ability to function in a professional manner under stressful circumstances.
Frequency of physical demands: Occasional = 33% or less of the workday, Frequent = 34–66% of the workday, Constant = 67–100% of the workday.
