Responsibilities
- Operate metal shearing equipment (track hoe) using safe work habits.
- Observe shear operations to detect malfunctions and notify maintenance.
- Load and unload items from machines, conveyors, and conveyances.
- Clean equipment and work area at the end of shift.
- Keep work areas neat and orderly; regular attendance and punctuality are essential.
- Organize materials to maximize effective use of space.
- Dispose of various waste materials in the appropriate manner.
- Inspect work areas to ensure cleanup is completed.
- Maintain effective housekeeping for safety and hygienic conditions.
- Comply with all applicable federal, state, local, and SA Recycling safety, health, and environmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Requirements
- Employees in this position prior to April 2014 are presumed qualified and "grandfathered" into their positions.
- Must pass a medical physical and drug test.
- Must pass a background check.
- Preferred: high school diploma or GED (or foreign education equivalent).
- Bilingual (English & Spanish) language skills a plus.
- Ability to communicate effectively, understand direction (written or oral), and use basic math skills as required by the job.
- Previous shear experience is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Work Environment: Scrap metal recycling and shear area.
- Equipment & Tools: Shear, hoists, hydraulic motors, mechanics tools.
- Physical Demand Level: Light to moderate.
- Work Capacity: Lifting and carrying 35lb loads, standing for long periods.
- Sensory Demands: Hearing, vision, touch, smell, and taste.
- Hand Movements: Repetitive motions, gripping.
