Position Overview

Senior-Level SharePoint Automation & Governance Consultant/Architect to help modernize and automate the management of a large SharePoint Online environment. The organization currently has approximately 900 SharePoint sites and millions of files. Client is looking to establish stronger governance and automation around data lifecycle management, retention, archiving, deletion, classification, and security.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the current SharePoint Online environment of approximately 900 sites and millions of files.
  • Design and implement a scalable SharePoint governance and data lifecycle management strategy.
  • Automate the identification of stale, obsolete, and inactive SharePoint content.
  • Develop automated processes for retention, archiving, and deletion based on business and regulatory requirements.
  • Help implement governance supporting data-retention requirements of approximately seven years.
  • Develop methods for evaluating content based on age, activity, usage, classification, and retention requirements.
  • Build automation to reduce ongoing manual SharePoint administration.
  • Utilize PowerShell, Power Platform/Power Automate, Microsoft Graph/API capabilities, and other Microsoft 365 technologies as appropriate.
  • Improve data classification, tagging, permissions, and overall content governance.
  • Partner with security teams around DLP, conditional access, data classification, access controls, and compliance.
  • Evaluate opportunities to leverage Microsoft Copilot and AI to further automate SharePoint management and governance.
  • Document architecture, automation, processes, and governance standards to enable ongoing support by the internal team.

Required Qualifications

  • Deep, hands-on SharePoint Online experience in large enterprise environments.
  • Senior Consultant, Architect, or Senior Engineer-level experience.
  • Experience designing and implementing SharePoint governance.
  • Demonstrated experience building SharePoint automation.
  • Experience with data/content lifecycle management, including retention, archival, and deletion.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills, ideally PowerShell.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 security, governance, and compliance.
  • Ability to assess an existing environment, develop an architectural approach, and participate hands-on in implementation.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across infrastructure, security, compliance, and business teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Microsoft Purview, including retention, DLP, sensitivity labels, data classification, and/or records management.
  • Power Platform / Power Automate.
  • Microsoft Graph API and/or SharePoint APIs.
  • Microsoft 365 Copilot.
  • AI-assisted automation, classification, or tagging.
  • Experience designing automated governance processes at enterprise scale.
  • Experience working with sensitive or highly regulated data.
