About the role

Provides effective and accurate survey control to the shaft by operating plumb bobs, hanging steel tapes, survey instruments, and auxiliary equipment. Prepares detailed construction component installation procedures, development, and construction layouts for use in the shaft in compliance with set standards, under the direction of a Shaft Engineer and/or others.

Responsibilities

  • Provide necessary survey control, steady brackets, elevation tape brackets under the direction of the shaft engineer, line and grade for stations, etc., and locate concrete forms and shaft furniture to required specification.
  • Frame and install guides and brackets.
  • Work with Miners and Operation personnel to accurately calculate construction materials and provide results to Shaft Engineer or Technical Services Manager.
  • Work with Shaft Engineer to plot results on plans and sections; review project drawings to determine accuracy and development goals.
  • Prepare necessary construction and development layouts.
  • Create, compile, and enter data into official log books.
  • Inspect quality of materials with emphasis on steel match marks and quality of fabrication and concrete.
  • Perform torque tests.
  • Organize cap boxes and Magazine log books specific to the requirements of each shift.
  • Provide data to the Shaft Engineer or Technical Services Manager to generate reports of shaft advance and coordinate supplies and quality control of shaft sinking supplies.
  • Work in a safe manner and ensure awareness of hazards, especially for men working below.
  • Follow all applicable workplace procedures, the five-point safety system, and a worker's responsibility under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Fully support and actively participate in the Project safety program.
  • Ensure personal protective equipment is used as required and workers are made aware of hazards associated with improper use.
  • Establish rapport with the Manager and develop an action plan for relevant personal and professional development goals.
  • Work with Manager to set up a professional and personal development program for the Shaft Technicians.

Requirements

  • Technical Degree or University Degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Valid Driver’s Certificate.
  • 1-2 years of Mining Engineering or mining experience.

Work Environment

  • 20% office, 80% mine operations.
  • Moderate physical demands.
  • Use of company-approved personal protective equipment.

Skills

  • Proficiency with mining engineering software as needed per project.
