Sewing Utility Worker
About the role
The role of the Sewing Utility Worker will operate and tend sewing machines to perform sewing operations. This includes joining and reinforcing of materials. Sewing machine operators handle work on a large scale as they are required to operate and tend to industrial machineries.
Responsibilities
- Set and adjust machine controls and test for proper functionality before completing sewing projects.
- Follow order guidelines to complete sewing projects.
- Sew missing stitches/replacement parts according to repair instructions.
- Ensure finished product meets design, merchandising and quality standards.
- Reload machines with products.
- Sort, fold and stack materials.
- Maintain production standards for completion of all assignments.
- Address any problems to ensure quality control including preventative maintenance per instructions and guidelines; reports defective materials and equipment.
- Utilize personal protective equipment and continuously adhere to safety guidelines.
- Participate in cross training opportunities to maximize operation effectiveness.
Requirements
- Meet hourly production goals and adhere to established safety and efficiency standards.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED highly preferred.
- 1 - 2 years’ experience in similar role.

Work Environment
- Well-lit manufacturing shop environment generally exposure to extreme temperatures (hot and cold), dust, odors, fumes.
- Noise level is moderate to loud.
Physical Demands
- Frequently required to lift 10 - 50lbs, sit for long periods of time, perform detailed and repetitious work using hand and eye coordination; use close vision skills.
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch or crawl.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
- Basic math skills.
- Ability to read instructions, understand and meet all guidelines.
- Proficiency in English highly preferred.
- Good communication skills.

The employee will generally be housed in a non-climate controlled, well-lit environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
