Summary/Objective
The position of a sewer is to join, support, or decorate textile and fabric materials. Sewers mainly work with sewing machines that run faster and are heavier than tradition machines used in homes. This position involves working with various types of sewing machines.
Essential Functions
- Ability to work on sewing machines in a manufacturing environment.
- Responsible for selecting all the equipment needed for the sewing process, which includes setting up the machine and its peripherals, and using the tools correctly. Tool needed to perform this include scissors, knives, fasteners, screwdrivers, stiffeners, templates and measuring devices.
- Responsible for monitoring machine operation, which can include fixing attachments such as needles, threads, pattern plates, or cutting blades.
- Ensuring that textile parts are in correct sequences and confirming that the color lots and textile patterns match.
Other Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for inspecting the product after it has been rendered.
- Keeping record of orders processed
- Setting apart defective or low-quality garments for correction or disposal.
- Consistently keeping eye for quality defects.
- Perform all other responsibilities as may be assigned by management.
Working Conditions
- Primarily working indoors, manufacturing environment.
- May sit, stand, bend, climb, lift, or walk for several hours at a time.
- Repetitive use of hands to operate sewing machines.
- May be exposed to dust, fumes, gases, noises, cold, and wet.
Qualifications
Level 1 Sewer
- Little to no sewing experience
- Can learn the basics of sewing within 2-3 weeks
- After short training period, can produce basic and repetitive SKUs with good quality

Physical Demands
- Regularly required to manually loft and stack product that ranges from five to sixty-five pounds.
- Must be capable of sitting, standing, bending, climbing, lifting, or walking for extended periods of time.
- The work element is in a temperature-controlled environment.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time hourly position, and hours/days worked are decided by production and your reporting manager. Must be able to work additional hours and up to seven days a week, as needed.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Previous sewing experience is preferred but not required.
- Manufacturing/industry experience.
- High school diploma/GED is preferred but not required.
