Setup Technician - Die Casting Magnesium
About the role
Under general supervision, responsible for the set-up and operation of production cells used in production processes. Work from verbal or written instructions, diagrams, or models. Inspect machining operations and finished product against specified tolerances using precision measuring tools. Shift between activities as production demands, determine and correct more complex machine malfunctions. Perform routine maintenance and cleaning.
Responsibilities
- Maintain production documents such as error check lists and 5-minute check sheets.
- Show understanding of all quality process controls and documentation.
- Use all equipment safely and correctly.
- Execute all functions of the die-casting cell.
- Ensure quality of parts from the die-casting cell.
- Start up high-pressure die-casting machines.
- Perform quality checks and document information as required.
- Document daily operations in shift logs.
- Collaborate and work within continuous improvement teams on plant projects.
- Detect casting errors visually and analyze "out-of-tolerance" conditions.
- Make adjustments to improve product quality.
- Assist other team members with troubleshooting and machine operations as needed.
- Work in a team environment.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Promote positive employee and company culture.
- Submit and implement lean and safety suggestions.
- Interpret machine operations, gauges, and functions to ensure proper machine operation.
- Communicate with all departments to clarify unclear drawings or job instructions and seek help when problems arise.
- Interact with co-workers, including mechanics and machinists, to relay new information and safety precautions, and to receive instructions or instruct others on new jobs.
- Identify when machine adjustments are needed and know the proper steps to take to improve product quality.
Requirements
- High School Graduate or equivalent.
- Two to four years of manufacturing experience, plus high-pressure die-casting experience preferred.
- Ability to work independently when needed.
- Team player with the ability to work with mechanics, machinists, fellow operators, and management to ensure efficient machine usage and well-managed work priorities.
- Effective communication skills in both oral and written forms.
