Set-Up Operator

About the role

This is an onsite full-time union position in Berlin, CT. Under direct supervision, you will direct the activities of a group of flowline employees, set up, adjust, and maintain various production machines, perform expediting and layout functions, service operators, monitor quality, maintain production flow, and ensure production quotas are met.

Responsibilities

• Read blueprints, sketches, and operation sheets to make setups.
• Use various gages and measuring instruments (tools, feeds, and speeds are usually predetermined).
• Instruct operators on proper operating procedures, practices, and quantities to run.
• Periodically check operators and setups to ensure proper operation and that quality and safety standards are maintained; re-instruct operators as necessary.
• Run small quantities of production pieces while instructing, re-instructing, or before assigning work to an operator to ensure jobs are set up and running properly.
• Oil and clean machines as necessary; check and fill oil reservoirs.
• Weigh and count work, maintain production and scrap records, and fill out required paperwork; use data entry equipment.
• Maintain departmental stock or storage areas.
• Fill in for operators as needed.
• Instruct and assist other Flowline Leads, including Flowline Lead Trainees.
• Check, adjust, and maintain all related safety devices for proper operation; fill out and maintain related safety records.
• Run production pieces on pilot runs or where quantity or time makes it impractical to assign to an operator on incentive (under supervision direction).
• Move materials as necessary and maintain a clean and orderly work area.

Requirements

• Be knowledgeable of and conform to existing plant safety regulations.
• High school or trade school diploma, or equivalent manufacturing work experience.
