About the role

The Sessions Clerk supports the Probate and Family Court Department by facilitating hearings, managing court sessions, and assisting with various administrative tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates hearings and provides support to an assigned judge in a courtroom setting.
  • Manages court sessions, calls lists, and handles technical issues in the courtroom.
  • Schedules assigned judge, attorneys, and parties for court sessions.
  • Prepares case lists and pulls files for upcoming sessions.
  • Reviews documents for compliance with law and judicial approval.
  • Coordinates and assists attorneys, litigants, and other agencies with court procedures.
  • Administers oaths and bail warnings.
  • Ensures that all court and case files are appropriately documented and distributed.
  • May review and distribute court recordings.
  • Performs independent administrative review of pleadings, as necessary.
  • Ensures compliance with court orders regarding document submissions after hearings.
  • Coordinates with the Security Department/Court Officers on security issues.
  • Participates in training of other staff.
  • May be required to travel to different courts.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Five (5) years of related work experience.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of modern office equipment and technology, including computers and applicable software.
  • Departmental and court policies and procedures.
  • MassCourts, videoconfering software, and recording system (For the Record).
  • State statutes, regulations, court rules, and civil/criminal procedure.
  • Legal documents and terminology.

Benefits

This position is designated as a Union position and is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement with O.P.E.I.U., Local 6. Starting pay is $68,037.06 and may advance within the salary band according to the CBA/MOU.

Pay

$68,037.06 to $100,275.76
