Course number and title: VIS331H1F: Art Criticism
Course description: Criticism is a practice of writing distinct from academic argumentation or artists' writings, with a long history in periodicals, newspapers, and exhibition catalogues. The course surveys the genre to analyze key texts that have shaped the narrative of art leading to, and including, the current discourse. Students both read and write criticism in the course, experimenting with voice, rhetoric, and polemics.

Sessional Lecturer III Long Term: $ 11,228.90

Minimum Qualifications

MA or MFA (or equivalent graduate degree) required with previous teaching experience. Strong writing and publishing record in the field of Contemporary Art. Applicants may be asked to supply references.

Preferred Qualifications

Internationally recognized practice.

Description of Duties

Preparation and delivery of course material; managing digital teaching materials and platform, supervision of teaching assistants; preparation and delivery of assignments, tests, final examinations and deferred final examinations; marking of student work, submission of grades, dealing with student enquiries, appeals and petitions and student contact hours.

Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12 of the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement.

Please note: Undergraduate or graduate students and postdoctoral fellows of the University of Toronto are covered by the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 collective agreement rather than the Unit 3 collective agreement, and should not apply for positions posted under the Unit 3 collective agreement.
