Service Validation & Labor Time Technician
About the role
Slate is seeking a Service Validation & Labor Time Technician to join the Service Engineering team. This role is on-site in Troy, Michigan and requires previous automotive OEM/supplier technician experience with a focus on time study creation and documentation.
Responsibilities
- Create repair procedures and time study allowances across all vehicle commodities (Body, Interior, Chassis, Electrical, Propulsion, Restraints).
- Detail time allowance tracking for all vehicle repair procedures with documentation in approved time-tracking system software.
- Create time studies as needed for Technical Service Bulletins, Recalls, and Accessory installations.
- Work jointly with Slate service partners to maintain a labor time guide with detailed change management tracking.
- Validate customer-facing service removal and installation procedures and diagnostic troubleshooting trees on-vehicle through multiple vehicle development milestones up to and after production.
- Validate diagnostic scan tool content and FOTA updates through all vehicle milestones and post-production.
- Identification of repair efficiency opportunities.
- Review and respond to field inquiries on time study allowances and restudy requests as needed.
- Support validation of special service tool development with on-vehicle testing.
- Special tool identification and fastener torque specification escalation with Engineering.
- Support plant repair bay problem resolution found during vehicle builds.
- Support Field Technical Support team service issue escalations as needed.
Requirements
- Completion of an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Completion of an Automotive Vocational Program from an accredited automotive training institution.
- ASE Master Technician Certification.
- Master Technician Certification from an automotive OEM.
- Experience: 8+ years of experience as an automotive technician, preferably with Hybrid or Electric Vehicles.
- Hands-on experience working on high voltage electric vehicles and systems, including high voltage diagnostic troubleshooting, testing, and knowledge of the ecosystem.
- Previous experience with an automotive OEM is preferred.
- Knowledgeable and experienced with Automotive OEM time study procedures and documentation.
- Proficient in reading electrical schematics and understanding basic electrical theory.
- Proficient in vehicle diagnostics and ECU troubleshooting on CAN and LIN buses.
- Proficient in operating and maintaining various hand tools, power tools, shop equipment, and shop tools.
- Knowledgeable regarding Health and Safety protocols.
- Previous experience with CAD and Polarion is preferred.
- Previous experience with regulatory requirements is preferred.
- Creative problem solver that can create simple solutions to complicated problems.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and time management.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with an emphasis on technical content and the ability to participate in presentations.
- Able to collaborate and remain calm and professional in a fast-paced, team environment.
- Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for data capture and writing reports.
Physical Requirements
- Must have the ability to travel (up to 10%).
- Must have the ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds.
- Must have the ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
Work Hours and Schedule
The regular work schedule can be expected to be Monday to Friday from 7:00am EST to 3:30pm EST. Flexibility may be required on occasion to accommodate project deadlines or special business needs.
Overtime Policy
While the position may occasionally require additional hours, overtime will be limited and is subject to prior approval based on business needs. We strive to maintain a healthy work-life balance, and employees can expect their regular schedule to be consistent with minimal overtime requirements.
