About the role

The primary function of the Journeyman Service Technician is to perform superior quality repairs to customer equipment and make recommendations for further services as determined by the Technician during service.

Responsibilities

  • Receives repair order assignments from Service Manager/Foreman.
  • Follows instructions and executes work assignments in repair order thoroughly and efficiently.
  • Maintains superior standard of workmanship in all services performed.
  • Advises Shop Foreman of any recommended changes in services ordered by the customer.
  • Determines if any further repairs or servicing should be recommended to the customer and communicates such recommendations to the Shop Foreman.
  • Maintains a level of training and experience with specialized equipment, machinery, and servicing techniques necessary for superior servicing of the customer’s equipment.
  • Attends training sessions as required by the Service Manager.
  • Performs additional repairs as required when any piece of equipment is returned by customer because of Technician’s faulty workmanship.
  • Maintains accurate work order records of work performed and time clocked on jobs.
  • Follows warranty vendor guidelines while keeping the service desk informed.
  • Ensures that all parts are properly marked, retained, and handled according to the vendors’ warranty requirements.
  • Accepts and represents the department in all assigned after‑hours call‑out situations, ensuring timely response, professional communication, and proper resolution of issues.
  • Assists in developing apprentice technicians by providing guidance and on‑the‑job training as directed by the Service Manager/Foreman, ensuring skill growth and adherence to department standards.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend English instructions and information.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Five years of experience as a heavy‑duty truck repair technician with an emphasis on engine repair.
  • Working knowledge of all heavy truck repair methods.
  • Ability to operate power and hand tools and other equipment safely.
  • Working knowledge of PCs and computers.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills.
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License preferred and good driving record.

Working Conditions

  • Physically demanding position.
  • Stand six to eight hours per shift.
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, handle and feel.
  • Lift parts weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Use hand and power tools, hoist and test equipment.
  • Exposed to noise, vibration, dust, exhaust fumes, paint, and other hazardous and non‑hazardous materials.

Pay

Salary range: $35.00 – $42.00 per hour (DOE).
