Service Technician II
About the role
This is a remote position for a Service Technician II role at Starline, a part of Legrand. The position requires a highly self-motivated individual to perform service work on Starline's full complement of products at customer sites. The technician will work directly with end users and contractors to ensure all on-site products are functioning properly and tested prior to system energization. The Service Technician must be willing and able to travel domestically often and internationally occasionally.
Responsibilities
- Execute a System Startup checklist while at a customer’s site.
- Program Starline CPM and third-party meters at the customer site.
- Demonstrate the ability to identify and resolve complex network issues.
- Knowledge of terminal emulator programs like PuTTY and Telnet.
- Meter programming and networking support via phone with customers.
- Complete a startup certification report and a meter commissioning report.
- Interact well with customers being professional and respectful while on the job site.
- Obtain a Level 1 Thermography Certification to IR scan energized Busway components as part of routine service visits.
- Complete associated thermography reports.
- Diagnose and repair on-site issues as required by end-users and contractors.
- Train and mentor internal and third-party technicians related to on-site services.
- Suggest new services identified in the marketplace through customer and contractor interaction and present ideas to management.
- Identify and specify required testing equipment for new or existing on-site services to create efficiency gains or to increase depth of testing.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent work experience.
- Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
- Superior attention to detail.
- Service-oriented, actively looking for ways to help others.
- Excellent critical thinking skills where you can use logic and reasoning to identify onsite product issues.
- Basic knowledge of network communication protocols (Telnet, SNMP, BACnet, etc..).
- Product knowledge and familiarity with Starline Busway.
- Ability to present yourself professionally as an Starline representative, must act and dress the part.
- Tardiness to job sites, inappropriate or improper dress or any form of disrespect while on the job site will not be tolerated.
- Willingness and desire to train and support both internal technicians as well as on-site customers, electricians, contractors and end users.
- Proficient experience with Microsoft Office and Windows.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Ability to rent a vehicle.
- Ability to obtain government mandated security clearances.
- Valid Passport.
- Ability to obtain a company credit card.
- Experience using power and electrical testing tools and equipment.
- Advanced knowledge and experience working on electrical components and meters.
- Willingness to complete mandated training and certification programs.
- Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:
- Work performed at customer sites may be on active construction sites, which will require, under certain areas; the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, specific footwear, mandatory hearing protection and electrical safety clothing as required on a site-by-site basis.
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
- Ability to climb ladders and perform work while standing on a ladder.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs. occasionally; ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. daily.
- The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
- Travel: Up to 90% of the time, when acting as a Service Technician, via car or airplane.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work long hours as needed at customer sites.
