Purpose
The Service Technician will provide on-site support to internal and external customers in maintaining Vesuvius products and systems for the Steel division.
Key Result Areas
- Participates in all safety meetings & functions following all rules set forth to ensure safe work environment.
- Assists Account Manager and participates in customer meetings when required.
- Assists Account Manager with refractory solutions and refractory knowledge.
- Gathers daily reports: caster logs, EAF heats sheets, ladle logs, tundish sheets and other related reports.
- Packages products as required, using skids, crates, boxes, etc.
- Notifies account manager or lead/supervisor of unusual equipment problems and performs all other duties assigned by the Account and/or District manager.
- Conducts field trials for new and current business initiatives.
- Compiles trial information for analysis.
- Trains customers on proper procedures for mechanism operations and maintenance.
- Trains customers on proper procedures for systems and refractory use.
- Takes regular inventory with precision.
- Affords assistance in all project work at customer’s site.
- Collaborates in all delivery efforts of Vesuvius products.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associates degree or certificate in technical field a plus.
- Two plus years of industrial and/or maintenance experience a plus.
- Basic mechanical skills with the ability to become proficient in how our systems function.

- Requires good reading, writing, and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to manage time effectively.
- Ability to work from blueprints and diagrams.
- Ability to use MS Word and MS Excel.
- All fork-lift operations including the ability to load/unload trucks occasionally.
- Able to rig components using slings and chains.
- Ability to use basic hand tools.
Problem Solving & Complexity
- This position requires the ability to interact with external and internal customers at various levels.
- It is important that during exchanges with customers that technical credibility is maintained while also understanding what is in the best interest of Vesuvius.
- The service position will assist with all business initiatives for Vesuvius and report to the account manager.
Physical Requirements
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, vehicles.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Exposure to dust and raw materials particles is frequent.
- Exposure to extreme temperatures.
- Ability to work within the steel mill environment daily to interact with customers and colleagues.
