About the role

MES is looking for a full-time Service Technician (Air Products - SCBA) responsible for inspecting, maintaining, repairing, and testing Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) used by firefighting personnel in environments with limited oxygen or hazardous atmospheres. The role ensures SCBA equipment remains in optimal condition and ready for emergency use.

The ideal candidate will conduct periodic service calls at fire departments, performing preventative maintenance on 3M/Scott Safety SCBA and related equipment. The territory covers central Texas counties, including Travis, Bastrop, Lee, Fayette, Burleson, Brazos, Hays, Comal, Kendall, Kerr, Gillespie, Llano, Burnet, Mason, Milam, San Saba, Caldwell, and Lampasas. The candidate should reside within central Texas. Travel is required approximately 25-30% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections and functional checks of 3M/Scott Safety SCBA and related equipment to verify readiness and compliance with safety regulations and standards.
  • Conduct maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs, replacing worn or damaged components to ensure proper functionality.
  • Perform tests on SCBA units, such as pressure, airflow, and leak tests, to ensure they meet or exceed manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
  • Maintain detailed records of all inspection, maintenance, and repair activities, including equipment condition, parts replaced, and testing results.
  • Calibrate and adjust SCBA equipment to ensure accurate readings and safe operation.
  • Train end-users and personnel on the proper use, care, and maintenance of SCBA equipment.
  • Manage spare parts and replacement components inventory to ensure adequate stock for repairs and maintenance.
  • Stay current with safety regulations and industry standards for SCBA equipment, ensuring compliance with Scott/3M standards.
  • Interact with customers and end-users to address concerns and assist with equipment-related issues.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in servicing and maintaining SCBA equipment is highly desirable.
  • Additional technical training or certification related to SCBA equipment maintenance and repair is preferred.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) standards, and manufacturer-specific guidelines for SCBA equipment, preferably Scott/3M.
  • Sound computer skills.
  • Willingness to travel extensively, including occasional overnight stays for remote or large jobs.

Desired Characteristics

  • Good communication skills for interacting with customers and colleagues.
  • Mechanically inclined.
  • Previous experience servicing and maintaining HVAC equipment/systems, small engine repair, firefighting equipment, hydraulics, or cabling.
  • Previous experience as a mechanic or electrician.

Physical Requirements

  • Physical fitness and ability to lift and carry SCBA equipment (up to 50 lbs.).
