Service Technician 1 Trainee

About the role

Join our growing team at Summit Utilities, Inc., a natural gas utility providing safe, reliable, and clean-burning natural gas service to homes and businesses in Arkansas, Colorado, Maine, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas. This opportunity is for a Service Technician 1 Trainee (SGL3) based in Jacksonville, AR. The role involves field operations, customer service, and community representation.

Responsibilities

• Initiate gas service, perform leak investigations, and make repairs.
• Locate gas lines and read gas meters.
• Conduct load surveys and complete work order system documentation.
• Serve as a First Responder in emergency situations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• No previous experience needed.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Title will change to Service Technician 1 upon completion of all occupational qualifications and supervisory sign-off.

Skills

• Proficient using personal computers and software including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Valid state driver’s license with a good driving record; ability to operate company vehicles safely and in compliance with laws and policies.
• Knowledge of industry and company safety standards and regulations.
• Aptitude for basic mechanical tasks, including installing and reading pressure gauges, voltage meters, pipe locators, repairing service lines, bar testing, and classifying underground leaks.
• Ability to monitor and adjust gas system pressure.
• Strong customer service skills; respond to customers courteously and knowledgeably, both in person and by telephone.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, projects, or activities through completion.
• Adaptability to changing priorities and ability to work well independently or in a team-based environment.
• Commitment to compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
• Complete all required training courses in a timely manner.
• Adhere to the Company’s values and business practices consistently.

The position is covered under D.O.T. regulations and Summit Utilities' Drug and Alcohol Policy, including random drug testing.
