About the role

The Service & Repair Assistant (Motor Equipment) performs semiskilled maintenance, repair, and preventive service on automotive, mechanical, and facility equipment. This role involves working independently on routine tasks and assisting journey-level mechanics with complex, major mechanical repairs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on automobiles, trucks, and mechanical equipment.
  • Diagnose basic mechanical problems and restore equipment to proper operating condition.
  • Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance inspections on vehicles to ensure safe operation.
  • Clean parts, replace defective components, and lubricate moving machinery parts.
  • Operate various motor vehicles and specialized mechanical equipment.
  • Inspect, service, and repair facility equipment such as pumps, circulators, sterilizers, and hydraulic systems using manuals.
  • Serve as a lead worker over small maintenance crews.
  • Distribute daily work assignments and provide clear instructions to unskilled workers.
  • Offer hands-on aid and oversight to crew members during tasks.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience in mechanical work (i.e. mechanical repairs on automotive and other motor-driven equipment).
  • Must have group one NYS inspection license or ability to get one within one year of hire.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course (post high school).

Skills

  • Working knowledge of the methods, material, tools and equipment used for making a variety of mechanical repairs on automotive and other motor driven equipment.
  • Working knowledge of the operation of small engines, lawn mowers, tractors and automotive equipment.

Benefits

  • Full Time Regular Schedule: Monday through Friday with Saturday and Sunday pass-days. Hours will be 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., hours may vary based on operational need.
