About the Role
The Service Manager - Truck ensures the successful management of work performed in the service area. This role involves establishing production goals, supervising, training, and evaluating service employees to align with company and department goals. The incumbent monitors physical requirements for work completion (facilities, tools, environmental) and communicates updates to the Regional Service Manager. Daily practices include demonstrating alignment with the company’s mission and core values, collaborating with internal/external resources, and participating in ongoing self-development.
Responsibilities
- Hire, develop, evaluate, and influence effective and consistent productivity and teamwork to deliver Legendary Customer Service (LCS).
- Model, promote, reinforce, and reward the use of HOLT’s Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to align with the company’s Vision, Values, and Mission.
- Select, manage, develop, and evaluate service personnel to ensure high-quality workmanship and efficiency in a repair and service shop environment.
- Communicate, implement, and monitor service department policies for consistency.
- Monitor and control time records, service reports, and shop maintenance activities.
- Plan and assign work, enforce policies and procedures, and recommend improvements in repair and service methods, equipment, and operating procedures.
- Model and coach safe shop work and safety practices to maintain a hazard-free environment.
- Manage company expenses through warranty and damage recovery.
- Maintain delivery and field service fleet and facilities to Cat Contamination Control standards.
- Work safely at all times, adhering to all applicable safety policies and company standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Highly developed mechanical background with experience in various engine sizes/types and electrical systems.
- Extensive knowledge of construction equipment, aerial, and lifting equipment.
- Familiarity with machines, tools, their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Knowledge of MSHA, OSHA, and DOT regulations; certification preferred.
- Quality control analysis skills to evaluate products, services, or processes.
- Operation and control skills for equipment or systems.
- Advanced mechanical skills and understanding of schematics and diagrams.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Judgment and decision-making skills to assess costs/benefits of potential actions.
- Attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Recordkeeping and document control for compliance with company policies.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret written information.
- Ability to listen and comprehend spoken information.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent/trade school diploma required.
- Aerial lift and forklift certification required.
- Five to eight years of work-related experience preferred.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Recruit, interview, hire, and train employees.
- Plan, assign, and direct work; coach and develop team members.
- Appraise performance, reward, and discipline employees.
- Address complaints and resolve problems.
Travel
Less than 10% travel per year, including some overnight stays, primarily for training. A valid driver’s license is required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to move objects and use abdominal/lower back muscles for support without fatigue.
- Frequently move materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Constant movement and use of limbs; requires manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
- Ascend/descend ladders and work underneath equipment safely.
- React to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions.
- Visually inspect work.
Work Environment
- Regularly works indoors around moving mechanical parts; may be exposed to weather extremes (heat, cold, humidity).
- Noise levels may be loud at times.
- Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, steam, high-pressure water, and high-speed rotating equipment.
- Significant time spent in confined spaces and high places.
