Service Lead

Location: Mesa, AZ 85204
Branch hours: Monday–Friday, 6 AM–5 PM (morning shift, 40-hour work week; overtime determined by business needs)

About the role

The Service Lead’s primary objective is to assist the Branch Manager and/or Service Manager with shop flow and service quality to ensure timely, accurate service and repair to the rental and delivery fleet. Prioritize and assign repairs of all “downed” equipment to ensure it is quickly brought back into service within company guidelines. Approximately 75% of the time is spent performing regular preventative maintenance and major repairs. The role also includes ensuring mechanics complete documentation on time, monitoring part orders and expenses, and providing safety, process, and technical training. Frequent feedback to service leadership on shop activities and individual performance is expected.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate to establish daily work priorities of shop and yard employees
• Facilitate effective communication with shop via huddles, meetings, and one-on-one interactions
• Assist with key decisions regarding all major equipment repairs, ensuring warranty or customer damage issues are promptly addressed and communicated to the Service and/or Branch Manager
• Ensure adequate availability of essential shop supplies for seamless operations
• Serve as a liaison between the shop and office, addressing equipment issues such as breakdowns and customer damage
• Demonstrate and instruct advanced troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair techniques for equipment
• Provide training on repairing gas and diesel engines, complex hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and drive trains (including manual and power-shift transmissions on equipment and trucks)
• Instruct in welding techniques including electric arc ‘stick’, gas welding, and brazing
• Conduct thorough inspections, servicing, testing, and refueling of equipment prior to tagging it “Ready to Rent”
• Ensure upkeep of all decals, safety warnings, and company ID stickers
• Maintain accurate records documenting equipment maintenance and repair, including field service paperwork
• Utilize part books and requisition forms to accurately order parts as needed
• Maintain a safe working environment
• Maintain a clean and orderly shop environment, including returning tools to designated locations, clearing benches, and sweeping or mopping the shop area at the end of each workday
• Assist with general yard duties, including customer assistance
• Assist with washing and staging of equipment
• Deliver or pick up equipment to or from job sites as needed
• Promptly report safety incidents/violations to Branch and/or Service Manager
• Assist in training new mechanics
• Maintain company vehicles in accordance with established standards
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Consistently adhere to safety policies, procedures, and guidelines
• Possess mechanical knowledge of construction equipment
• Demonstrate basic computer and typing skills
• Ability to grasp and apply new information quickly
• Ability to focus on details and complete tasks with accuracy
• Ability to read, write, and speak English (bilingual is a plus)
• Full range of motion, agility, and strength to lift one's body into/out of large vehicles, trailers, and equipment
• Capable of normally lifting 25 lbs., frequently lifting 50 lbs., and occasionally lifting 90 lbs. with the assistance of mechanical aid or lift assistance
• Minimum age of 21 years to drive company vehicles
• Valid driver license and ability to maintain a good driving record qualifying to safely drive a company vehicle for work purposes

Pay

$27.50 – $37.85+/hour, dependent on experience.
