Responsibilities

  • Ensure all service phone calls are handled professionally and expediently.
  • Coordinate service shop workflow by effectively working with the Service Leadman and assigning jobs to technicians.
  • Supervise all assigned service technicians.
  • Coordinate department activities between the service department, parts department, and service customers.
  • Facilitate effective communication between internal and external customers, vendors, and business contacts.

Primary Duties

  • Assess incoming service department jobs, make initial repair diagnoses, and create customer repair orders following company procedures, including obtaining customer signatures.
  • Update and close computerized customer repair orders, ensuring all service department activities are properly documented.
  • Manage available billing hours by planning and delegating workloads to qualified and available service technicians.
  • Provide leadership and serve as a technical resource for service technician staff, demonstrating sound industry knowledge.
  • Demonstrate and ensure high standards for quality, safety, and customer concerns to support the success of the service department.
  • Evaluate all work in progress to ensure repairs proceed in a timely fashion and are completed with accuracy.
  • Inform service writers and other service personnel of delays, necessary repair order extensions, and additional service requirements.
  • Establish and ensure adherence to a maintenance schedule for the service facility and shop equipment.
  • Communicate with customers regarding appointment scheduling, repair status, parts availability, and work progress.
  • Assist service technicians in the shop as needed.
  • Ensure an adequate inventory of resources for technicians, including oil, grease, shop supplies, cleaning equipment, and materials.

Requirements

  • Formal technical school graduate certificate/degree (or equivalent work experience).
  • Minimum of 5 years of heavy-duty truck or related industry experience, including processing repair orders, diagnosis, repair, maintenance, and customer service.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Familiarity with both DOS and Windows-based computer programs.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of warranty guidelines, claim procedures, and company policies.
  • Ability to supervise employees and delegate work to best utilize shop resources and technician abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure while prioritizing and processing multiple tasks simultaneously.

Schedule

Work a 8–10 hour shift, with extended hours as needed. The role involves standing, reaching, crawling, stooping, bending, and regularly lifting up to 75 lbs.
