About the role
Service Field Techs perform service, test, and maintain various types of power transmission and distribution equipment from a safe, modern facility in Baton Rouge, LA.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up, and collect data on low, medium, and/or high voltage (to 500 kV) electrical systems.
- Test low, medium, and/or high voltage switchgear and circuit breakers.
- Perform inspection, maintenance, testing, and repair of transformers (45 KVA to 130 MVA, dry type and/or oil filled) and related equipment.
- Maintain, test, recondition, and repair circuit breakers: low voltage (480 V, molded case and air-magnetic) and medium voltage (up to 15 kV, air-magnetic and vacuum).
- Experience with SF6-filled equipment and gas-insulated switchgear is desired but not required.
- Test and inspect low and medium voltage cable installations.
- Operate high voltage test equipment, including Doble Power Factor test sets.
- Perform start-up, troubleshooting, and repair services on controls and transfer schemes.
- Rotate emergency on-call duty and respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner.
- Ensure all work and decisions comply with regulatory laws.
- Complete on-site job reports and projects consistently on budget.
- Other duties as assigned by manager.
Requirements
- High School diploma/GED or equivalent experience.
- 5 years of experience in a related field.
- Knowledge of the National Electrical Code and industry standards (NETA, OSHA, IEEE, NFPA).
- Strong background and experience with high voltage equipment through the 230 kV class.
- Experience or training with MCCs, breakers, relay testing, oil testing, infrared scanning, or performing start-up on switchgear up through 500 kV class (or military training such as Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, NAVY, or related programs).
- Valid driver’s license.

Pay
$40.43 to $53.91 per hour, depending on experience, skillset, and NETA certification level.
Schedule
- Full-time, non-union position.
- 75% travel required.
- Rotating emergency on-call duty.
Location
Baton Rouge, LA (with significant travel throughout the service area).
Physical Demands
- Lifting a minimum of 50 lbs daily.
- Crawling, climbing, and standing for long periods.
- Working in non-ideal conditions.
