About the Role

Under the direction of Field Leadership, the Field Technician receives and carries out work assignments from management and internal customers to support field operations and complete customer orders. This role specializes in installing, splicing, and terminating medium voltage (MV) shielded cable systems (5KV to 35KV).

Responsibilities

  • Perform splicing and termination of shielded medium voltage power cables using hand-applied tape, separable connectors, pre-molded, heat-shrink, and cold-shrink technologies.
  • Ensure secure connections to support the reliable operation of electrical systems.
  • Conduct electrical testing on spliced cables to verify functionality and adherence to industry standards.
  • Ensure the quality of work meets regulatory and company quality standards.
  • Troubleshoot, test, maintain, redesign, rebuild, retrofit, and/or repair electrical equipment as assigned, including transformers, switchgear, and breakers on customer sites.
  • Perform welding and/or painting tasks as assigned.
  • Work away from home location for multiple days or weeks at a time.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and complete test reports to company and customer standards and timelines.
  • Improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and collaborate with other departments for seamless operations.
  • Communicate effectively with management for problem resolution and transfer of job-related information.
  • Maintain strong client relationships, prepare project estimates, expand project work scopes, and assist in negotiating extra charges.
  • Inspect customer sites, report problems to Sales and Project Management, and walk through sites as needed.
  • Work in the shop when not completing field jobs as directed.
  • Collaborate with team members to complete work assignments based on customer needs and product requirements.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly work area while observing all company, local, and federal safety rules and best practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED and a minimum of 1 year of experience in a related field.
  • Experience in cable termination and splicing required.
  • Proficiency in using specialized tools and equipment for cable splicing and termination.
  • Knowledge of safety standards such as OSHA and state safety regulations.
  • Familiarity with industry standards including NETA, OSHA, IEEE, and NFPA.
  • Proven mechanical skills and experience with low and high voltage equipment (requirements vary by location).
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry, information lookup, and report creation.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills; ability to follow written and oral directions, read work orders, and specifications.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and communicate with various departments and customers.
  • Customer-focused with the ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple projects, and produce quality work.
  • Valid driver’s license for positions requiring the use of a company vehicle.

Pay

$30–$70 per hour, depending on skillset, certification, and experience. Eligible for overtime.

Schedule

Full-time position with 50–75% travel required. Ability to work away from home for multiple days or weeks at a time.
