About the Role
A Service Engineer or Specialist is responsible for providing service and support to RoviSys customers, maintaining service level agreements (SLAs), and ensuring direct customer interaction and reporting. This role involves troubleshooting hardware and software, controller programming, graphics configuration, field testing, calibration, system maintenance, documentation, and independent decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Service and Support (80%):
- Perform regular inspections, maintenance, and software updates of control systems.
- Identify and address system malfunctions or inefficiencies.
- Implement system upgrades and enhancements to improve efficiency and performance.
- Monitor service and support communication channels (phone, email, chat, ticketing systems).
- Track service metrics, performance indicators, and KPIs to identify issues and trends.
- Respond promptly to incidents, outages, and service disruptions to maintain SLAs.
- Collaborate with technical teams to resolve critical incidents.
- Project Support (15%):
- Instrumentation & Electrical Design:
- Create instrument lists from P&ID drawings.
- Compile submittal and procurement documentation for controls and instrument hardware.
- Provide technical support for service technicians.
- Inspect completed support requests.
- System Design and Configuration:
- Participate in customer design review meetings.
- Assemble development systems using project hardware and computers.
- Configure user interfaces, HMI screens, and control algorithms (DDC, PLC, DCS).
- Draft system documentation from templates.
- Assist in customer demonstrations and acceptance testing.
- Configure networks to interface with equipment.
- Onsite System Startup:
- Install project software and configurations at customer sites.
- Participate in point-to-point loop checks.
- Perform instrumentation and software calibration and tuning.
- Troubleshoot installation discrepancies and program field modifications.
- Assist with commissioning test plans, documentation updates, and training materials.
- Instrumentation & Electrical Design:
- Sales Support (5%):
- Serve as a technical contact for customers.
- Support sales teams during customer meetings.
- Identify future sales opportunities with customer contacts.
- Maintain relationships with existing customers.
Working Conditions
- Variable swing and/or night shifts to support customer needs.
- On-call rotation schedule (24/7 availability during assigned periods).
- Travel to customer facilities for maintenance, troubleshooting, and installations (variable by location).
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or similar engineering field OR equivalent industry experience.
- Technical Skills:
- Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Proficiency in at least one controls platform:
- Tridium: Niagara N4
- Distech: BACnet, LON, Eclypse Controllers
- Johnson Controls: Facility Explorer, Metasys
- Siemens: Apogee (PXC), Talon, DXR, Desigo CC, Insight
- Rockwell: FactoryTalk, RS Logix/Studio 5000, PlantPAx DCS
- Preferred: Scripting (VBA, Python), Kepware OPC, ThinManager, VMware.
- HVAC Experience (Preferred):
- Understanding of HVAC systems in large building automation.
- Knowledge of sequence of operations and P&IDs for HVAC and plant utilities.
- Experience with functional testing and test plan execution.
- Instrumentation and control valve specification for HVAC systems.
Pay
Competitive Base Salary: $80,000–$105,000, depending on experience.
