Mission
The Service Engineer Intern will gain hands-on experience in operating and maintaining the Proton Therapy System (PTS). Interns will assist with troubleshooting equipment issues, performing routine preventative maintenance, conducting system inspections, and supporting hardware and software testing. This internship offers exposure to various phases of PTS maintenance, including unit testing, integration testing, validation testing, and other site-related activities.
Challenges
- Assist in the maintenance and deployment of the Proton Therapy System (PTS) for various customer needs, including QA Development, Software/Hardware Testing, and Troubleshooting.
- Support troubleshooting of PTS equipment, including electrical, mechanical, and software issues.
- Participate in routine preventative maintenance and system upgrades as necessary.
- Conduct system inspections and assist in communicating the status of the system to leadership and IBA employees.
- Provide support for PTS Hardware and Software testing.
- Help with daily clinical operations for the customer clinical staff as defined by the Site Manager and Site Technical Leader (STL).
- Maintain adequate records as defined by the customer and Site Manager in accordance with company QA and FDA regulations.
- Support PTS in unit testing, integration testing, validation testing, and other various site-related activities.
What We Value
- Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, Physics, or other applicable fields.
- Relevant coursework or hands-on experience in electrical/mechanical system repair, troubleshooting, or maintenance is a plus.
- General knowledge of/experience with MS Suite: Excel, Word, Access, Outlook, Teams, etc.
- Basic knowledge or interest in Cyclotrons, Electronics, Mechanical Systems, Software Analysis, X-Ray Systems, Positioning Equipment, Cooling Systems, Vacuum Systems, PLC’s (Siemens), Regulation Loops, Drivers, Sensors, Electric Motors, Radars, High Voltage Equipment, Power Supplies, Proton Therapy Systems, etc.
- Knowledge of local EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) regulations is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of LINUX systems, SAP, Siemens Step 7, and Service Max is a plus.
- Experience in LEAN maintenance and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) is a plus.
Preferred Education and Experience

Work Environment
- Hours are irregular with 15-32 hours per week.
- Schedule could involve nights and weekends as IBA is a 24/7 work environment.
- The position is a professional position and the conduct of such a position should be the basic expectation.
