Service Engineer - Co-op / Internship

About the role
Tenova offers practical exposure to advanced steelmaking equipment, including CNC roll-grinding machines and precision mechanical systems. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers in field environments, gaining skills used across the heavy-industry and manufacturing sectors. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented intern to support our customer and project database initiatives, contribute to AI-driven projects, assist in the development of a design manual for secondary metallurgy furnaces, and engage with steelmakers across the U.S. This role offers hands-on experience in data management, artificial intelligence applications, and client engagement within the steel industry.
Location: Coraopolis, PA (On-site; travel required)
Compensation: $20/hour
Hours: 40 hrs/week
Duration: 12-week Co-op (option to extend up to 6 months depending on academic schedule)
Responsibilities
- Assist with installation, calibration, repair, and commissioning of CNC roll-grinding machines.
- Support mechanical and hydraulic inspections, troubleshooting equipment, and maintenance tasks.
- Participate in safety checks, project site organization, and equipment condition verification.
- Take part in precision alignment activities for large mechanical castings and rollers.
- Help prepare technical reports and documentation.
- Shadow senior engineers in steel plants and learn field-service best practices.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum GPA 3.0 preferred.
- Interest in industrial equipment, mechanical systems, or CNC machinery.
- Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail.
- Willingness to travel to steel plant sites (valid driver’s license preferred).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; exposure to CAD/technical drawing tools is a plus.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in a field environment.
