Key Responsibilities / Job Duties
- Respond to dispatched service calls at customer sites to diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on a wide range of commercial/industrial HVAC equipment, including but not limited to: Unitary and Packaged Systems, Boilers, Chillers, Control Valves and Related Components, Heat Exchangers and Cooling Towers.
- Troubleshoot VFDs, controls, compressors, conduct combustion analysis, verify proper operation, diagnose and repair compressor, motor, starter, and drive issues, perform leak detection on low-pressure systems, execute full teardowns, rebuilds, and overhauls of compressors, oil systems, and starters.
- Diagnose and repair signal, actuator, and control issues, identify performance deficiencies, troubleshoot flow issues, perform cleanings, gasket replacements, and reassembly.
- Provide detailed documentation of all service activities, including accurate completion of work orders, parts usage, recommendations, and service reports before leaving the job site.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, customers, and team members; deliver initial and follow-up training to customers on system operation and maintenance.
- Identify opportunities to expand service offerings by discussing additional preventive maintenance contracts, upgrades, or related services with customers.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, including OSHA standards, lockout/tagout procedures, confined space entry, and proper use of PPE.
Qualifications / Requirements
- Minimum 5+ years of hands-on field experience in commercial/industrial HVAC service, with proven expertise in chiller systems (including large-tonnage centrifugal and screw chillers preferred).
- Relevant certifications, such as EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification and manufacturer-specific chiller training/certifications (e.g., Trane, Carrier, York, Daikin, or equivalent).
- Strong troubleshooting skills across electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, and controls systems.
- Proficiency with computers and software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and service management tools.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, while collaborating effectively in a team environment.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening and background checks (as required).
- Willingness to work overtime, on-call shifts, weekends, and emergencies as needed.
