Responsibilities
- Diagnose all components of trucks.
- Write up repair orders and communicate with drivers and owners to determine problems and solutions for truck repair needs.
- Schedule and assign jobs and work areas to employees according to their skills and knowledge to eliminate time lost between jobs.
- Inspect and advise mechanics on work as it progresses.
- Track each customer job and advise customers on time of completion, cost of repairs, additional repairs, etc.
- Road test and dyno test trucks to diagnose problems and determine if repairs are complete.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of buildings, grounds, and work areas.
- Ensure proper maintenance of all company tools and equipment.
- Determine parts to be replaced and coordinate with mechanics and the Parts Department to ensure parts availability.
- Complete repair orders by gathering mechanics' write-ups, ensuring correct parts billing, and adding all necessary lines to the ticket.
- Ensure each repair is coded correctly.
- Familiarize with warranty of all truck parts and determine if a repair is warrantable.
- Arrive at work at least thirty minutes prior to mechanics to analyze the work schedule.
- Work additional hours as required by workload and business needs.
- Perform other duties or functions as directed by management.
- Help ensure safe working conditions for all employees.
Requirements
- Valid driver's license; Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred but not required.
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a shop foreman or lead mechanic.
- Knowledge of truck parts, equipment, and repairs.
- Previous experience in ordering parts, parts coordination, or as a service advisor is an asset.
- Knowledge of DOT/MTO rules and regulations is an asset.
- Effective problem solver with the ability to understand issues and find solutions in a timely manner.
- High attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
